You Have Worked So Hard (in Korean)

Park Ki-Gwan

As though someone dear had stayed beside me
A drama arrived with the spring
I, you, all of us
“You have worked so hard”

Life's panorama scatters among the white cherry blossoms
The river of childhood, carried by waves, has gone to the deep sea
Memories of youth in faded albums
Scatter into the passions of a falling life
The fields of middle age, driven by twilight, have gone to the high mountains

Beyond the windows of the 111 bus
From Nangok to Sinjeong-dong
When acacia blossoms drift like white snow
Yesterday, which seemed so far away, is as unfamiliar as today
And the today we feared
Was a time of upheaval leading to a hopeful tomorrow
When brilliant summer becomes dazzling autumn
And comes to winter

As though those dear to me had left my side
A drama departed with the spring
I, you, and all of us
“You have worked so hard”

My Father's Dream (in Korean)

Park Ki-Gwan · First written 7 May 2025; revised 18 January 2026

In the radiant spring of May
My father's dream vanished

From the point of a fall, high where he said he first flew
Beyond the endlessly unfolding horizon
That dream he saw
My father, returned as a sailor

I want to be a sailor
To leave this barren, tangled land
And go beyond
To the blue sea where the flags of billowing sails reach one another

My father, returned from wandering all night
Ah, my sailor forever

When Snow Falls (in Korean)

Park Ki-Gwan

To rejoice in the fallen white snow
As though for the first time
Means your heart is clear

To look up at the grey sky
Is to long for
Your mother's warm embrace

If you step softly on the snow
And hear its sound slip into your ear
It means your heart is beating

To feel the white snow falling
With your heart
Means there is love in your heart

Pumpkin Blossoms (in Korean)

Park Ki-Gwan

The splendid flowers
Before the wind even blew
Before the rain even came
Had already fallen

And yet
The yellow pumpkin blossoms
Quietly
Proudly
Are in bloom

So bright and clear
And a little wistful
The yellow pumpkin blossoms

Autumn on Umyeonsan (in Korean)

Park Ki-Gwan

Traces of the hostas
That lived here for years
Without monsoon rains
The thirsty
Summer is passing

Among scattered boxwoods
Silver grass leans long
Beneath a Mongolian oak
With a clatter
A chestnut rolls

When the one I loved
Loves me
And the one I longed for
Longs for me

Ah,
That autumn
Is coming
